The Global Business major empowers students to become innovative, ethical business leaders who thrive in a dynamic, interconnected world. The major cultivates a global mindset, fostering critical thinking, cultural awareness, and a commitment to responsible business practices. Integrating a strong liberal arts foundation with business knowledge, Global Business majors will navigate complex global challenges and contribute to a more prosperous, equitable, and sustainable future.

Student Learning Objectives

  1. Understand and apply major theories, practices, and analytical tools relevant to managing business operations, supply chains, and decision-making across global contexts.
  2. Evaluate opportunities in international markets and examine factors influencing conducting business globally.
  3. Use analysis tools and techniques applicable to managers to inform decision-making, such as data analysis, financial modeling, and market research, in a global business context.
  4. Develop cross-cultural skills to collaborate effectively in diverse, multinational settings, including framing business problems within the context of the culture and legal system in which the business operates.
  5. Make ethical, responsible decisions concerning global business activities that balance organizational priorities and broader social/sustainability impacts, demonstrating a commitment to corporate social responsibility.
  6. Apply knowledge, skills, and ethical reasoning to engage actively with diverse communities and address real-world challenges in a global business context.

Requirements for the Major


The Global Business major requires 60 hours of coursework, distributed as follows.

All courses are 3 credit hours.

D. Practical Applications (6 hours)


Experiential Learning requirement (3 hours)


Study abroad or internship with an international business organization.

Professional Development


Throughout their Wesleyan education, each student is given opportunities to explore professional and career choices and to develop and demonstrate the knowledge and skills essential for professional success. Each student will complete PDE 350: Professional Practice Seminar  and PDE 400: Professional Development Experience  .

Integrative Experience


Each student will complete BUS 488: Business Policy Seminar . In this capstone course, Global Business majors will undertake a significant research-based project in which they make connections among the various parts of their course of study and employ sound methodology.
