EDU 506: Teaching Math


Goal: To gain graduate-level knowledge and skills necessary to foster the development of mathematical content and processes, and positive attitudes in elementary students.
Content: The content, concepts, and skills of the elementary mathematics curriculum, along with the special methods of teaching the material. Materials suitable for teaching mathematics are explored, including manipulatives, digital resources, textbooks, and teacher-created materials. Students become familiar with the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) Standards. Current elementary teachers of record will implement meaningful, integrative experiences and curricula in mathematics that are appropriate for the elementary learner.
Prerequisite(s): Admission to the MAT program; EDU 520
