EDU 526: Professionalism and Curriculum Development Goal: The goal of this speech-intensive course is to provide the current elementary teacher of record with a broad understanding of the school as an institution and a business that serves the needs of both individuals and society. This goal will be achieved by enhancing the candidate’s professionalism as she fulfills the certification requirements and prepares to enter the teaching profession. An additional goal is to understand the intricacies, purposes, and impact of curriculum development at the elementary school level. This will be achieved through the study of curricular patterns of elementary schools and through the study and application of the curriculum development process. Content: Professional conduct and dress, parent communication and legal issues, documentation in the classroom, group dynamics (large and small), and resume. Prerequisite(s): Admission to the MAT program; admission into student teaching Credit: 3 Degree Level: Graduate
