EDU 335: Foundations of Teaching Reading Goal: To understand and to practice the science of teaching reading. Content: EDU 335 is the first reading course in a three-course sequence. This course will help students investigate various research-based approaches, techniques, and strategies for teaching students the five components of reading instruction: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary development, and comprehension. EDU 335 will address the foundational elements and theoretical bases of reading instruction. In addition, students will be introduced to reading assessment techniques and will put these elements into practice in the required 14-week Lab. Lab Hours: One 3-hour session each week (14 week minimum) Prerequisite(s): EDU 201 & EDU 219 Credit: 4 Degree Level: Undergraduate
