POL 102: Introduction to Political Studies Goal: What is politics, and how does it shape our world? This introductory course explores the fundamental concepts and questions at the heart of political science, with a central focus on the multifaceted nature of power, its sources, its exercise, and its consequences. The course takes students through the diverse subfields of political science, including American Government, Comparative Politics, International Relations, and Political Theory, examining how each approaches the study of political phenomena. A key emphasis will be on thinking like a political scientist, with students developing the analytical skills to critically evaluate political arguments, understand different theoretical perspectives, and analyze empirical evidence. Working through a range of case studies students will develop a critical understanding of how political decisions are made, the forces that influence them, and their impact on society.
