CLM 370: Queer Cultures


Goal: To analyze cultural productions that feature queer identities and to put those works into the context of the history of LGBTQIAA+ rights movements both in the U.S. and globally. To examine the impact of normative gendered and sexual power dynamics upon the lived experiences of a spectrum of queer people and communities through cultural representations. 
Content: Through an intersectional approach, this course highlights queer identities in various media, such as film, literature, television, art, music, and digital content. Through a critical theory lens, the course analyzes the history and evolution of queer representation across various media to expose both the power dynamics and the disruptive possibilities of queering hegemonic norms. 
Prerequisite(s): ENG 101  and one other ENG, COM, WGS, MST, or CLM course; or permission of instructor.
