HIS 347: Middle Eastern and African History Goal: This course offers students an immersive exploration of historical developments across the Middle East and Africa. The course challenges students to achieve four primary goals: First, students will develop an in-depth understanding of one or more topics such as ancient kingdoms, Islamic civilizations, colonial experiences, and independence movements throughout these diverse regions. Second, students will learn to critically analyze complex regional patterns and interconnections by applying advanced theoretical frameworks to historical transformations across different periods. Third, students will synthesize diverse Middle Eastern and African perspectives by integrating viewpoints from various cultures and societies within these regions. Finally, students will communicate sophisticated historical interpretations with scholarly language, supporting their claims through appropriate primary and secondary source evidence. Through these objectives, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the profound historical trajectories that have shaped Middle Eastern and African societies. Prerequisite(s): Satisfactory completion of College writing proficiency requirement or permission of instructor. Credit: 3 Degree Level: Undergraduate
