HIS 344: Central and South American History Goal: This course offers students an immersive exploration of historical developments throughout Latin America. The course challenges students to achieve four primary goals: First, students will develop an in-depth understanding of indigenous civilizations, colonial encounters, independence movements, and modern political transformations across the region. Second, students will learn to critically analyze complex regional dynamics by applying advanced theoretical frameworks to historical continuity and change. Third, students will synthesize diverse Latin American perspectives by integrating viewpoints from various cultures and social groups within the region. Finally, students will communicate sophisticated historical interpretations with scholarly language, supporting their claims through appropriate primary and secondary source evidence. Through these objectives, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the rich historical tapestry of Central and South America. Prerequisite(s): Satisfactory completion of the College writing proficiency requirement or permission of the instructor. Credit: 3 Degree Level: Undergraduate
