KOR 101: Elementary Korean I Goal: To teach students to speak, understand, and read Korean. Content: KOR 101 is for students with no previous background in studying Korean. Students will learn how to communicate in basic Korean. By the end of the course students will be able to: 1. Produce basic Korean using culturally accurate and natural pronunciation and intonation. 2. Carry on simple conversations, including exchanging greetings, introducing themselves, family, and friends, asking questions and giving directions. 3. Comprehend a short passage in the language on a topic of everyday life using appropriate target vocabulary. 4. Create simple notes, messages and paragraphs related to self, family and immediate surroundings. 5. Be familiar with basic norms of Korean culture regarding levels of formality. Prerequisite(s): None. A student must earn a grade of C or better in the 101-level course in order to continue into the next course. A grade of D or higher in the 102-level course will satisfy proficiency credit. Credit: 3 Degree Level: Undergraduate
